Use as incapacitating agent[edit]
Main article: Moscow hostage crisis chemical agent
Russian spetsnaz security forces used a fentanyl analogue or derivative to incapacitate people rapidly in the Moscow theater hostage crisis in 2002. The siege was ended, but about 130 of the 850 hostages died from the gas. The Russian Health Minister later stated that the gas was based on fentanyl,[128] but the exact chemical agent has not been identified.
Use in capital punishment[edit]
Main article: Execution of Carey Dean Moore
In August 2018, the United States used fentanyl for the first time to execute a prisoner.[129][130][131] Carey Dean Moore, at the time one of the United States' longest-serving death row inmates,[132] was executed at the Nebraska State Penitentiary. Moore received a lethal injection, administered as an intravenous series of four drugs that included fentanyl citrate to inhibit breathing and render the subject unconscious. The other drugs included diazepam as a tranquilizer, cisatracurium besylate as a muscle relaxant, and potassium chloride to stop the heart.[133][134]
Controversy[edit]
The use of fentanyl in execution caused concern among death penalty experts because it was part of a previously untested drug cocktail

Can you overdose on fentanyl?
Yes, a person can overdose on fentanyl. An overdose occurs when a drug produces serious adverse effects and life-threatening symptoms. When people overdose on fentanyl, their breathing can slow or stop. This can decrease the amount of oxygen that reaches the brain, a condition called hypoxia. Hypoxia can lead to a coma and permanent brain damage, and even death.

The vast bulk of scientific literature supports the short-term effectiveness and safety of the drug. Is the pharmaceutical industry suppressing information to the contrary? Rumors abound, including a counterrumor that this action is terribly reminiscent of Scientology-inspired suits in the late 1980s that temporarily led to decreases in Ritalin use in certain parts of the country.

Ritalin (methylphenidate), the drug used to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), cannot stay out of the news. Class-action suits filed recently in New Jersey and California allege a conspiracy between the pharmaceutical industry, physicians, and the leading ADHD self-help group to unnecessarily medicate American children with a dangerous drug
Profile
Methylphenidate, brand name Ritalin, is an amphetamine-like central nervous system stimulant used to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children, adolescents, and adults, as well as narcolepsy.1 It is a Schedule II controlled substance.2
Ritalin is just one brand name for methylphenidate. Sustained- or extended-release formulas of methylphenidate are sold as Ritalin SR, Ritalin LA, Metadate ER, Metadate CD, Methylin ER, and Concerta.3
History
First synthesized in 1944, the Ritalin formula (at that time commonly known as MPH, from methylphenidate) was improved in 1950, and by 1954 it was being tested on humans. In 1957, Ciba Pharmaceutical Company began marketing MPH as Ritalin to treat chronic fatigue, depression, psychosis associated with depression, narcolepsy, and to offset the sedating effects of other medications. It was used into the 1960s to try to counteract the symptoms of barbiturate overdose. For a short time MPH was sold in combination with other products, particularly a tonic of MPH, hormones and vitamins, marketed as Ritonic in 1960, intended to improve mood and maintain vitality. 4
Research on the therapeutic value of Ritalin began in the 1950s, and by the 1960s, interest focused on the treatment of "hyperkinetic syndrome," which would eventually be called Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.5 In the United States, the use of Ritalin and other stimulants to treat ADHD steadily increased in the 1970s and early 80s, but between 1991 and 1999, Ritalin sales in the United States increased 500 percent.6,7 The United Nations reports that the United States produces and consumes as much as 85 percent of the worlds production of Ritalin.8
Misuse of Methylphenidate
Ritalin comes in 5, 10, and 20 mg water-soluble tablets intended for oral ingestion. Those who misuse Ritalin increase the amphetamine-like effects by crushing the tablets into a powder and snorting it or dissolving it in water for intravenous injection.9
As a Schedule II substance, Ritalin has a high potential for abuse. When injected it may produce feelings of euphoria.10 Early reports of abuse in Sweden led to the removal of Ritalin from the Swedish market in 1968.11 The dramatic increase in prescriptions in the United States over the past decade has increased the potential for diversion from medical use.12 The DEA has collected reports indicating that adolescents who are prescribed Ritalin may give or sell it to their classmates who crush and snort the tablets.13 Ritalin is also diverted through "Attention Deficit Scams" in which a parent or other adult takes a child they claim has ADHD to a number of doctors to obtain prescriptions for Ritalin. The adult then keeps the drug for his or her own use or to sell or trade for other drugs.14
The DEA has received anecdotal reports of college students using Ritalin to help them study, especially for all-night study sessions and cramming for exams, in addition to using it as a "party drug."15 One survey of students at a public liberal arts college found that over 50% of survey participants knew other students who had used Ritalin for fun, 16% had used it themselves, and nearly 13% reported their own use included snorting the drug.16

Vilification
What does the law say about vilification?
How can I work out if something is covered by vilification law?
What can I do about vilification?
Vilification factsheet PDF 141KB
examples of conciliated vilification complaints
What does the law say about vilification?
In NSW it is generally against the law to vilify people because of their:
race, colour, nationality, descent, ethnic, ethno-religious or national origin
homosexuality (lesbian or gay)
HIV or AIDS status
transgender status.
This includes vilification because someone is thought to be lesbian, gay or transgender even if they are not, or thought to have HIV or AIDS, even if they don't.
NSW anti-discrimination law defines vilification as a public act that could incite or encourage hatred, serious contempt or severe ridicule towards people because of the above characteristics.
The vilification law only covers acts that are in public. It does not cover acts that are not public, for example abuse over a back fence that no-one else can hear.
Public acts could include the following:
image of hands texting on mobile phonesremarks in a newspaper, journal or other publications
remarks on radio or television
material on the internet, including social networking sites such as Facebook and micro-blogging services such as Twitter
graffiti
putting up posters or stickers
verbal abuse
making speeches or statements
making gestures
wearing badges or clothes with slogans on them.
How can I work out if something is covered by vilification law?
To work out whether a particular act is covered by the vilification law, there are three things to check:
Did it happen publicly?
Was it possible for any member of the public other than those directly involved to see it, hear it or read it?
Could it have incited or encouraged hatred, serious contempt or severe ridicule?
How serious was it? Would it have had an impact on other people?
Is it an acceptable type of free speech and therefore legal?
Freedom of speech is also important in our society, so the vilification law makes allowances for this. The following are not against the law:
A fair report by the media of someone else's act of vilification. The media will only be acting against the law if they add extra vilifying material or commentary to their report.
Acts that are done 'reasonably and in good faith' for academic, artistic, scientific, research or other purposes in the 'public interest'.
Material that is privileged, such as statements made in parliament.
If you are not sure about whether the act you are concerned about is against the law, phone our Enquiry Service for more information.
What can I do about vilification?
You can try talking to the person or organisation that is causing the problem. Use whatever help you can. There are a range of community organisations that may be able to help you, for example:

I feel mislead by the lady who originally put me her and by the lady who interviewed me and approved my application the first year I moved in ( I believe she worked once in a counsoling office for state county or private sector I believe it was in temple texas area or bell county area its been a long time not sure any more were) (with minors and adults) I feel mislead about the facts about the place and building sense it turns out it was on the demolition list to be knocked down once and that is actually true my bathroom the tub is apart from the wall around the tub already I had maintenance put some type of paste like glue around the tub and wall by tub so make it look better sense I have to live in it see but the demolition staff are probably right that this building is ready to be knocked down meaning in a condition to be knocked down instead of rented out but according to a police officer they are allowed to rent old buildings out from a demolition list if they need a place to rent and don't have means not enough money to rent a regular apartment
but I do feel mislead by the lady they have people going in and out of the apartments here and may not even be staff in and out signed k e sackett32463 whitelady(5'3)(5'21/2)

cruise ship lines and ship --they owe a lot of business loans for the cruise lines and ships and the ships that are old could be placed near a ocean front and boat line and tied down at boat line and shore line and the dining room in the boat could be rented out to public for party's for a fee like maybe $80.00 dollars for allowing a party for up to 3 to 4 hours only means a 8 hour party would cost $160.00 dollars and the people renting dining area for the party has to have 2 people who stay after the party and clean up the area used meaning dining room and trash and bathroom assigned to be used for the party the only area on the boat to rent out is the dining room area and one bathroom for use at the party the money must be collect before the people are allowed on the boat for the party to make sure they do pay and the people renting for the party the boat must bring at least 3 large trash bags for trash for the party to make sure they have something to put their trash in only two rolls of toilet papers will be provided by the people and staff and cruise ship lines for the party and the amount of people renters of cruise ship lines can bring and invite is up to 15 people only if more people the cost must go up to $50 dollars for every 8 persons more invited
this idea is a way for cruiseship lines to get some money to pay off the boats and pay back the government for the business loans and money owed the government that has not been paid back (this is just an idea to consider)
